PATTAYA, Thailand – A 70-year-old British man was taken to hospital with facial injuries after a confrontation on Jomtien Beach on Thursday afternoon, with police detaining a 28-year-old Thai man while they investigate claims that the dispute concerned a missing motorcycle. Rescue workers and patrol officers were called to the beach near Jomtien Soi 10 at approximately 12:40 p.m., where the injured man, identified only as Mr Anton, had swelling to his face and was given first aid before being taken to hospital for treatment.

Initial witness accounts and CCTV checks indicated that the Thai man approached Anton while the British man was sitting with friends on the beach, and the two men spoke before a confrontation developed, with preliminary footage appearing to show the Thai man kicking Anton in the face, knocking him to the ground, before a fight involving punches followed and members of the public intervened. While officers were dealing with the incident, the Thai man reportedly tried to leave the area and then ran away, but police pursued him and took him into custody.

Anton’s friend was said to be angry and shouted at the Thai man, with officers stepping in to prevent the situation escalating further. The Thai man told officers that he believed the British man could be connected to the disappearance of a motorcycle, claiming he had some evidence and had gone to question him, though police said the account was not yet clear and noted that the man appeared to be intoxicated.
